OUR ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2025
*Presentation of the IOHIO’s 15th International Organ and Early Music Festival, February 5-10, 2025, in celebration of the IOHIO’s 25th birthday on February 5. Some 80 people participated in this magna-event which offered concerts on eight organs, visits to six unrestored organs and their churches and meals in the local communities. The churches were always nearly full and approximately 2000 people heard at least one organ concert, many for the first time. Festivals
*Five IOHIO organ concerts: July 6 in Tlacochahuaya; October 5 (presented by Jesús González Velasco) in Tlacochahuaya; November 25 in the Basilica de la Soledad (a government event); December 7 in the Oaxaca Cathedral and December 11 in Jalatlaco. Video Playlist
*Visit of organbuilder Halbert Gober (October 22-29) to inspect, adjust and tune the organs in Tlacolula, Tlacochahuaya, Jalatlaco, La Soledad and the Cathedral.
*Reorganization and cleaning of our digital archives of photographs and documents.
*Progress on the Oaxaca organ catalogs. The data sheets in English and Spanish for each of the 72 organs will include more detailed technical and historical information to supplement the summaries presented in the Organ Inventory.
OUR GOALS FOR 2026
*Organization of the IOHIO’s 16th International Organ and Early Music Festival during the first week of February, 2027.
*Continuing reorganization of our digital photographs and documents.
*Presentation of group and solo concerts on the restored organs.
*Completion of the manuscript of the catalogs of the Oaxaca organs for publication in English and Spanish. “The Historic Pipe Organs of Oaxaca, Mexico” / “Los Órganos Tubulares Históricos de Oaxaca, México”.
*Installation of the electric blower in Tamazulapan. We have the motor, the blower box and the curtain valve; the Canadian organbuilder, Halbert Gober, will supervise its installation and calibration.
*An online circular with photographs to the priests in the Antequera diocese of the State of Oaxaca: “Cómo reconocer un órgano histórico” (“How to recognize a historic organ”), in the hope that they report more organs, or whatever is left of them, before they disappear.
Please consider making a donation to the IOHIO in order to keep us moving ahead with our excellent work, since your contributions are our main source of funding. We encourage both past and first-time Friends of the IOHIO to support this unique cultural initiative.
With all best wishes.
